Campus Ministry

In the spirit of a Christ-centered school, Campus Ministry at Archbishop Carney Regional Secondary School exists to support the spiritual growth of staff, students, parents, and alumni. We do this by creating and coordinating opportunities in the following areas: Prayer and Liturgy, Service and Outreach, and Retreats. Through these experiences, our faith is explored, and experienced, so all are able to live out and grow in their faith. Our students are challenged and encouraged to put their professed faith into action and discover how they can make a difference in the world, serving God and others with compassion and love.

RETREATS:

For our students, a retreat is a special time away from their normal routines to reflect on their lives, to experience new things, to enjoy being with their friends and to learn more about one another, to pray, and to quiet themselves down to be open to God. For many students, our retreats are highlights of their memories of Carney and sometimes become a turning point in their lives as they move forward on their faith journeys. Currently we offer a one-day Grade 8, 9, 10 and 11 retreat, and a two-day Grade 12 retreat.

SERVICE AND OUTREACH:

In keeping with our school’s mission statement which includes encouraging our students "to use their gifts in the service of the community," students are given the opportunity to participate in many areas of service and put their faith into action. Some examples include:

  • Participating in monthly Jeans Days, raising awareness of and funds for initiatives such as The Door Is Open and our school mission trips.

  • Carney students also join the Good Shepherd  Ministry on Friday evenings to walk and distribute the candy bags to the women living in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, bringing them prayer and hope.

  • On the second Sunday of each month, students prepare and serve meals at The Door is Open.

  • Students also organize a Lenten food drive for the Saint Vincent de Paul Society.

  • Carney students have the opportunity to participate in a Missionary/Fellowship/Cultural/Service trip. Past trips have included supporting at risk youth in the Bronx, New York City, learning from first nations through travel to Haida Gwaii, helping the Salesian priests in Tijuana, Mexico, and travelling to Vietnam on a medical missionary trip.

  • Opportunity to attend the annual "March for Life" in Victoria and annual Pro Life conference.
